Let me introduce you to my new love. The beautiful understated, muted pink. Now, I’m normally a self-confessed colour palette bore – I mean, flick through my posts on this blog and you’ll see that the colours in my wardrobe range from (the very exciting) white, to (the even more exciting) black, and sometimes (and most exciting of all) navy blue. And I realise that a muted colour is hardly revolutionary, but hey, baby steps.
I might just be compensating for years of rejecting pink for every stereotype that goes with it. But there’s something so neutral about this particular shade that it almost neutralises my feelings toward said stereotypes. More importantly, it goes beautifully with the neutrals that make up the bulk of my wardrobe. Complements them, even. Softens them. Takes the anger out of the blacks and pumps interest into the greys. It makes the whites look edible. Cupcake-like. But not so sweet that it makes you sick.
Basically, I’m obsessed. So obsessed, in fact, that I went and bought a whole two items in said understated pink – this sweater and this scarf. That’s a real spree for a relative minimalist. Not to mention my phone cover – I know, excitement levels are HIGH. But in my defence, that cover makes me happy every time I look at it. And I look at it a lot because, well, I’m a millennial.
Whatever way you look at it, this understated pink is progress. Progress in refreshing my wardrobe (more on that here). Progress in my colourless colour spectrum. And progress (?) because I have somehow managed to write an entire post about a single colour.
And now confess your current fashion obsession…?
